How to Build Your LinkedIn Page

Regardless of what industry you decide to go into, networking is always key. It gives you opportunities that you might not have had otherwise and every opportunity is a big deal. Luckily, LinkedIn helps with building and maintaining your connections and is ultimately the foundation for your personal branding. In this blog, we will talk about how to start building your LinkedIn page and a few tips for success.

  1. Profile Picture

The first thing users will see on your page is most likely your profile picture and therefore it is important to ensure there is a good first impression. Some key tips to do so are to make sure the picture is professional* and that it is a current picture of yourself. With this picture, make sure that your face makes up about 60% of the profile picture circle.

*This can be done with friends using a good quality phone camera, finding a plain colored background and wearing relatively professional clothing, it doesn’t actually have to be taken by a professional photographer.

  2. Network

By linking your email address to your LinkedIn profile, the website will offer you suggestions of people you might be interested in connecting with. Building the number of people you have a connection with is a great way of keeping your network vibrant and up to date. More people means more opportunities, and more opportunities lead to more success.

  3. Make your URL custom

LinkedIn allows users to create their own unique profile URL so they can share it with other people or include it in job applications. To do so:

    1. Click Me under your profile picture.

    2. Hit View Profile.

    3. Click Edit public profile & URL.

    4. Beside your current URL, click the Edit icon, which looks like a pencil.

    5. Type a new URL in the box, and click Save to confirm your changes.

Building your LinkedIn profile doesn’t have to take up hours, but doing little things to elevate your profile can make you progress quickly. Once you are taking full advantage of everything LinkedIn has to offer, you’ll be amazed at what a difference it can make for you! :)
